# Garage Cleanout Checklist for Atlanta Homeowners

If you can no longer park in your garage, you are not alone. Garages are where everything goes when we do not know where else to put it. The good news is that a garage cleanout is very doable in a single day with a plan. Here is the checklist we recommend.

## Step 1: Pick a day and a goal

Decide what "done" looks like. One car in? Both cars in? A workbench you can actually use? Having a clear goal makes it much easier to decide what stays. Pick a dry day. Atlanta summer afternoons can turn into thunderstorms fast, so start early.

## Step 2: Make four zones

Set up four areas on the driveway or lawn:

- **Keep:** things you use at least once a year.

- **Donate or sell:** things in good shape you no longer need.

- **Junk:** broken, worn out or not worth the space.

## Step 3: Work in sections

Do not try to tackle the whole garage at once. Start at the door and work back one wall or one shelf at a time. Every item goes into a zone. No "maybe" pile, it only creates more work later.

## Step 4: Be honest about the usual suspects

- Exercise equipment that has become a clothes rack.

- Paint cans from colors that are no longer on your walls.

- Boxes from the last move that were never opened.

- Kids' bikes and toys that have been outgrown.

- Broken appliances "waiting to be fixed."

- Extra furniture stored "just in case."

## Step 5: Get the junk out the same day

The biggest mistake is letting the junk pile sit in the driveway for a week. Schedule the haul away for the same day or the next morning.
